The glossary is here to give you more information on standard dedicated server terms. If you require further information on a certain term we have used in here, please email our dedicated server sales team at sales@twelve.net
CPU:
The machines are custom built onsite by our own engineers. They consist of only high quality components, such as Gigabyte motherboards, Intel EtherExpress+ 100mbit network cards and Seagate hard drives. We also only use Industrial rackmount 19" cases for the servers as these are of a much better build quality and are much reliable than you cheap standard PC cases. The rackmount cases have 3 internal fans to help circulate air easier and have filters to help block the amount of dust getting into the server. We carry spare parts of all our dedicated servers in stock at all times. This allows us to fix any machines or upgrade any without any delay. twelveNET only uses genuine Intel Processors.
Memory:
We use PC 100 Kingston branded memory only. This is much more reliable than unbranded, cheaper memory as it tends to last much longer and be much more reliable. An important part in any dedicated Server. Memory is measured in 'Megabytes', thus if you buy a server with '64' in it, you have 64megabytes of physical memory.
Drive 1:
Disk Capacity is measured in 'gigabytes'. Therefore, 4.3 in the Drive 1 column will indicate your machine has a 4.3gigabyte hard drive.
Drive 2:
Disk Capacity is measured in 'gigabytes'. Therefore, 4.3 in the Drive 1 column will indicate your machine has a 4.3gigabyte hard drive. If the Drive 2 column has a figure in it, this means that this dedicated server comes with two hard drives (it is your choice what you use the second drive for, i.e., backup purposes, user files)
Transfer Quota:
Your Dedicated Server is set a monthly transfer limit, this is the total amount of data that the server is allowed to transfer each month, it is built up from, emails, FTP sessions and web requests, also any other servers / services you run on that server that create traffic. The monthly traffic is measured in gigabytes. If you go over the level you signed up for, you will be charged an 'excess' per gigabyte.
IPs:
Each Dedicated Server comes with 4 IP addresses as standard. Usually, you will not require anymore IP addresses as by using the HTTP1.1 protocol you are able to host literally hundreds of websites per one IP address. If you require more IP addresses this can be arranged if there are sufficient reasons for them. twelveNET is a member of RIPE and therefore acts responsible in allocating IP addresses to customers.
Software Install:
The standard software install is a list of all the software we will setup and configure on each new dedicated server when you order it. Each server starts with a new hard drive and is formatted and the operating system installed on it. Then our engineers install the software on it and configure it ready for your use. Minimum Contract Time:
Every Dedicated Server comes with a minimum contract time. This is measured in months. After this time, the user is allowed to terminate their use of the Dedicated Server from twelveNET, or signup for a further 6 months contract. Longer contract terms may be arranged. Please enquire when ordering.
Secondary Mail/DNS:
We can provide secondary DNS and Backup Mail (MX Records) for all your domains, this service is included free of charge with every dedicated server.
.co.uk domains (per 2yrs):
Dedicated Server customers benefit from a cheap and easy domain registration system that twelveNET provides. We can provide .co.uk/.org.uk/.ltd.uk/.plc.uk's for only £10(+VAT) per two years (inclusive of all registry fees). The domain will be registered under your name or your client's and your nameservers will be used for the domain record.
.com domains (per 2yrs):
Dedicated Server customers benefit from a cheap and easy domain registration system that twelveNET provides. We can provide .com/.net/.org's for only £30(+VAT) per two years (inclusive of all registry fees). The domain will be registered under your name or your client's and your nameservers will be used for the domain record.
Number of Free Domains:
Depending on which dedicated server you order, you get one free domain, or maybe more!. Whether you use this for your company name, or perhaps a customer of yours is totally up to you. You don't have to use them all at once either, you can use them when you want. The free domain is registered by us and then setup by you.
Services Monitoring:
twelveNET can provide free services monitoring for your dedicated server. This includes checking that the connection is alive, that POP3 / SMTP / HTTP / FTP etc is all currently operational. You can be emailed if something breaks.
Setup Fee:
This is a one-off setup fee and is only paid when the user first signs up for a Dedicated Server. This fee is not due again at the contract renewable date if the customer wishes to renew.
Monthly Fee:
This is a set monthly fee that is due every month. The fee is due for the next 30 days. i.e. payment on October 1st would be for the time from October 1st to November 1st.
